The new update brings the all new "MANTLE" graphics update for the game. MANTLE would replace the DirectX 11 graphics rendering format and is expected to increase performance over DirectX 11 providing gamers much more smoothness and framerates.
Johan Andersson, one of the technical directors in the Frostbite team at DICE, shared the update story via the Battlelog.
"My name is Johan Andersson and I’m one of the Technical Directors in the Frostbite team and I have something very exciting to share with all Battlefield players: the latest Battlefield 4 update on PC includes the long-awaited new renderer in Frostbite that is using AMD’s Mantle".
Andersson discussed about the rendering format of the the MANTLE graphics API.
"Mantle is a new low-level graphics API that we’ve been working very closely with AMD on over the last 2 years and it is a major change & improvement to how we are able to program & use modern GPUs in order to get the most out of them".
The players will be able to access MANTLE in their game settings once they have the following requirements:
-AMD Catalyst 14.1 Beta drivers.
-AMD Radeon GPU with Graphics Core Next
-64-bit Windows (7, 8 or 8.1)
At present, MANTLE is going through various performance tests at different situations of the game to ensure MANTLE works efficiently throughout the whole game.
Andersonn mentioned that the players will be able to switch between MANTLE and DirectX 11 once they have downloaded the MANTLE renderer alongwith the latest upcoming AMD Catalyst 14.1 driver.
DICE is also seeking for feedback from the players community over any performance related issues and issues regarding the MANTLE and catalyst software as it becomes available for download.
